BETTY JANE PRYLE RIZZO ASHTON

OBITUARY FOR BETTY JANE PRYLE RIZZO ASHTON Betty Jane Pryle was born in Pittsburgh to John Whitt Pryle and Clara White Pryle on January 27, 1925. After a serious accident and hospital confinement as a child, she was later adopted by her Aunt and Uncle Tony and Jessie Rizzo. She moved to Middletown, Ohio. She met and married Ray Edwin Ashton in 1942. They were married 62 years until his death in 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Ray Edwin Ashton, Jr. in 2010. Betty enjoyed many activities over her long life. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Middletown Regional Hospital/Atrium Medical Center totaling more than 6333+ hours. She also was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was dubbed “Red Bud”. She spent many years as an active member of the Eastern Star organization. She was a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls in Camden, Ohio. She loved her dogs, especially Chihuahuas. Betty leaves behind her daughter, Sandra Ashton Miller and son Roy “Tony” (Michelle) Ashton, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Sawyer Ashton. Her grandchildren include Elizabeth (Brian) Ashton Lord, Leslie (John) Miller O’Hara, Jacqueline (Rick) Miller Longworth Dixon, Josh (Kim) Ashton, Julie (Chris) Ashton Boone, Angie Ashton McQuiston, Caleb Ashton, Hailey Ashton and Jordan Ashton. Her great-grandchildren include Conner Ashton, Caitlyn Boone, Cassie Boone, Kirsten Boone, Brianna Longworth, Hunter Longworth, Zander Lord, Ashton McQuiston, Karter McQuiston, Liza O’Hara and Caty O’Hara. We also want to acknowledge her special friend, Jo Griffin. The family would like to thank the employees of Close to Home Assisted Living in Middletown for the excellent care they provided to her for the last 7 months. We also acknowledge the care and compassion from the employees who attended her at Atrium Medical Center in the emergency room and the 4th floor during her brief stay. We also want to thank Dr. Omer Hurlburt for his attention and compassion for her during her final illness. Also we want to recognize the very special help from the Hospice employees who attended her at the end and helped with her transition. In her final hours Betty continually asked when she was going home. The angels are smiling as she finally got to go home. Betty requested to be cremated. The family will be planning a future memorial celebration in her honor and will update the website with details. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
