BALLARD, Herman, age 90, of Somerville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, where he had been a patient for two days. He was born December 13, 1926 in Ashland, Kentucky and lived in Ohio most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from construction with the Ohio Labor Union. Herman was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Preceding him in death were his parents, Clark and Stella (McNabb) Ballard; one brother, Edward Ballard; and three sisters, Opal Mae Ballard, Thelma Fay Ballard and Anna Lorene Perkins. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Phyllis Ballard; one son, Steven (Jan) Ballard; two daughters, Dianne (Harry) Gerdau and Jennifer (Tom) Cox; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Richard) Smith and Marilyn (Robert) Crawford; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by services at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Dan Flory officiating. Private interment at the convenience of the family will be at the Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton, Ohio.
