MARTIN, Montford “Monk” D., age 72, of Middletown, Ohio passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at his residence with family at his side. He was born May 21, 1948 in Powell County, Kentucky and moved to Ohio in 1974. Montford served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, in which he was stationed in Germany for two years. He was employed as a shipping clerk at Middletown Paper Board for 28 ½ years, and then was employed at Franklin Box Board for six years, before retiring in 2012. Monk enjoyed bowling with his co-workers on the company’s league. Monk was an outdoorsman, as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Preceding him in death were his parents, Algier and Thelma (Campbell) Martin; one sister, Deonna Carroll, and his furry child and best friend Shadow. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Bonnie Martin; four children, Angie (Nate) Stewart, Algier (Carolyn) Martin, Tommy (Pam) Martin and April (Mike) Hayes; eight grandchildren, Aaron, Lillian, Natalie, Hannah, Ethan, Sydney, Brookelynn, and Colton; God-daughter, Melanie Craig; special cousins who have provided much care and support in our time of need, Jim and Amy Ewen; and many extended family and friends. A private service will be held at Woodside Mausoleum, in Woodside Cemetery, with Brian Abney officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard and entombment will follow. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
